STEP 1
Get a free quote by calling (613) 701-6429 or send an email to info@mcdcontracting.org.
Pricing is calculated based on square footage and the amount of material required to finish the job without sacrificing quality in the process. One of our landscaping experts will visit your home to asses your lawn and determine how much sod, topsoil, and fertilizer will be required. By the end of the visit, you will receive a free quote on your sod installation and learn more about how to maintain the luscious lawn you've always dreamed of!
STEP 2
Book your sod installation in person or by calling (613) 701-6429.
We are available to work around your busy schedule! The booking can be completed during the home visit (step 1) or you can call us back and schedule an appointment at your own convenience.
STEP 3
Secure a 40% deposit to cover the cost of the required materials. Our policy regarding payment is to collect a 40% deposit upfront by cheque, cash, e-transfer, or credit card if the amount is under $2,000. The remaining amount will be paid once the project is completed.
STEP 4
Re-sodding can be compared to transplanting a tree. We take existing grass sods that have grown in a field and transplant the grass rolls onto your property.
Here is an overview of the process:
First, we will bring in our professional rototiller to re-level the surface. This is done by breaking the existing grass into clumps and bringing up the soil underneath. The tilled grass acts as a natural fertilizer for your new grass on top. The high and low spots created by rototilling are then raked out and re-leveled once more.
Next, we unroll the fresh Kentucky Bluegrass to fit perfectly onto your property.
The roots of the transplanted grass will begin to adhere to the fresh topsoil within the first 10 days after installation. These roots will easily push through the fresh, fluffy topsoil and will grow 3 to 4 inches under the ground. With an MCD lawn, your roots will never dry out because they will always have the water.
A strong root system that is receiving enough moisture is the secret behind grass that stays nice and green all season long.
STEP 5
During the first week after the sod installation is complete, it is very important to water your new lawn every day for 2 hours. The existing roots will push through the transplanted soil and adhere into the fresh, fluffy topsoil that we layer underneath. The frequent watering during week one will ensure the growth of the grass and the roots so that the transplanted roots find their new home in the fresh soil.
After the first week, you will slowly decrease the watering schedule to every second or third day, for 2 hours each session. Simply hook up your sprinkler and let the water do its thing.
Your lawn needs 2 inches of grass to photosynthesize and thrive. After at least 10 days, you can begin to mow the grass once a week so that the blades remain at least 2" high.
On a monthly basis, your yard will need to be fertilized and checked for weeds. These services are part of the MCD Contracting lawn maintenance package which is purchased by most of our re-sodding customers. The package will be customized to include any other special services required to keep your yard looking perfect: aeration, gardening, fertilizing, weed control, and more! To learn more about our maintenance service package, please call us at (613) 701-6429.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
A: Seed bags bought from local gardening stores are usually a variety of seeds mixed together, growing in only a few days. This is convenient, however, grass that grows quickly will also grow inconsistently. It takes 45 days to germinate a seedling of Kentucky Bluegrass and requires perfect growing conditions. Our 100% Kentucky Bluegrass lawns are grown in Canadian facilities and are ready for sodding right away.
A: With every sodding project, we offer a lifetime maintenance package which includes monthly fertilizing and weeding. After two years, we begin aeration which is another essential part of the process of having the most luscious, green grass ever.
Call us today at (613) 701-6429 for more information on the perfect maintenance package for you!
A: Any time you are planting seeds yourself, you are unable to control weeds while the seedlings are germinating. Exposed dirt will grow vegetation (half grass, half weeds) and quickly become an eyesore. This is why we offer re-sodding instead! Our grass already has a root system because it has already gone through the 45-day period. The roots will adhere to your topsoil within 7 days, creating an instantly beautiful lawn without the hassle of weeding or waiting to see results.
A: Generally, the price of sod and new sod installation is calculated based on square footage. The amount of sod and other materials required to finish the job will vary the price of a new lawn installation. A: The rototiller can be used in small spaces, but the machine is 34” wide. Therefore, our method using the rototiller can only be used if the machine is accessible. If the area is too small, we will remove 2” of grass and dirt to till the soil by hand. The excess grass is removed using our special sod cutters. Once tilled, we add topsoil, rake and re-grade the ground, and install the new 100% Kentucky Bluegrass sod.
A: We are located at 642 Gardenvale Rd, Ottawa, ON K1K 1E6.
A: In Ottawa, spring and fall are the best seasons to lay sod. The ground is warm and the grass won't dry out too quickly.
